Jeff Yong is a Malaysian cinematographer based in Singapore. He fell in love with the camera ever since his first DIY twin-lens reflex camera at the age of 13, and continued on to pursue a career as a cinematographer.
Jeff has been working with different production houses and agencies to produce short films and marketing content, while pursuing his own creative projects on the side. He believes in the power of moving image as a storytelling medium, with an emphasis on technical skills in lighting and colour.
He was also one of the few selected to attend Asian Film Academy 2019, where established directors and filmmakers from Asia gather to prepare for the future of Asian cinema. He participated in Terre Di Cinema 2023, a 35mm Celluloid Film workshop certified by Kodak, where he learned and shot a short film in 35mm film. The film is currently in post-production. Always updating himself with modern filmmaking tools, he experimented with virtual production for his latest short film “Distant Blueshift”, an initiative by IMDA Singapore.
His films have participated in some major festivals like BIFF, SGIFF, SMHFF, NYFA, Chandler International Film Festival, Falcon International Film Festival and etc. Jeff is always looking out to collaborating with like-minded people to tell great stories.
